Community Education

 
This activity involves promoting the rights of people with a disability and the position and principles of IAT, challenging societal values and attitudes.  Sessions range from introductory networking and liaison meetings to full group sessions developed for educational purposes using A.D.N workbook and inviting discussion, challenge and formal evaluation/feedback.  Presentations involve use of video, OHT, case studies and handouts.  
 
IAT’s Position   
To enable IAT to protect, defend and promote the best interests of vulnerable people with disability, it needs to actively raise awareness and develop networks about its role and function within its local communities.  
 
Goal/s  
  • Increase community awareness of IAT's position.
 
Strategies  
  • Develop and present advocacy workshops and presentations;
  • Attend community events and forums that offer an opportunity to network with different relevant groups;
  • Develop resources for culturally and linguistically diverse community groups;
  • Actively target community information towards those people who are most vulnerable and isolated within our community.
